RTS Terms & Conditions

 

RTS offers a 24hour/7days a week recovery & towing service in Malta and Gozo free to members holding a valid membership card or holding our official RTS receipt if membership is done at any insurance outlet or any of our sub-agents.  This applies also for renewals.  The card should ALWAYS be in the vehicle.  If it is not shown, the driver has to right to charge for the service.  Such charge will be refunded once the valid card is shown at the RTS office.  Membership is valid 3 days after filling the application.
It is VERY important that the member notifies us IMMEDIATELY when he/she changes the vehicle, thus a new card is issued.

When calling for assistance the member MUST quote: number plate, vehicle particulars and MOST importantly the exact location, street name & if known the fault of the vehicle.  In order for RTS to offer an excellent service, members must also answer to all necessary questions related to the breakdown.  RTS undertakes to send its representatives to the spot of breakdown as soon as possible after the call.
If a member repairs or manages to do without our services after calling RTS for assistance, he/she MUST NOTIFY RTS IMMEDIATELY so our representative won’t go on the spot of breakdown in vain.  If this happens, the membership will be INSTANTLY terminated without any notification.  If the member is hauling something behind the car this is not covered in the membership.

RTS also provides repairs of the vehicle on the spot if the repairs are of a minor nature.  If the repair cannot be effectively carried out within a reasonable time, or if the repair needs special tools or particular parts, RTS will tow the vehicle to where the member wants to or it can also be repaired at the RTS garage*.  Such repairs, parts and batteries are not included in the membership fee and so must be paid separately.  *RTS garage offers spray painting & mechanical services (Mob no. 99450894)
RTS also offers its services to non-member vehicles if vehicle owner has another valid membership with RTS for another car.  If an RTS driver notifies and advises the member on a recurrent fault, when the member calls again on the same fault, the member is charged at a discounted price.

RTS will drive the driver of the vehicle to where the vehicle is being towed to or the nearest bus stop.  Membership covers only one tow at every call, thus any additional calls for towing on the same breakdown carry a discounted charge.  Tow In is done at a discounted charge.
Member must pay ferry fares for his vehicle and tow truck for towing to and from Gozo, but assistance in Gozo is included in the membership on the same terms as Malta’s.

RTS membership does NOT cover FREE assistance in the Hal Far tracks, any off road tracks, car shows, and anywhere that is not the asphalted road.  RTS will also give assistance in these places at a discounted charge.  Where there is need for special machinery i.e. cranes, high-ups etc because vehicles end up in fields, sandy places, roundabouts etc., there will be specific charges for the machinery.

RTS membership also covers ‘Home Service’ – assistance near one’s home or in the garage.

The member must keep the vehicle roadworthy and in good condition.  Spare wheel should also be in good condition.

RTS membership does NOT cover negligence, in consequence if a call for assistance is done e.g.: when the vehicle has run out of fuel, when the driver has locked the keys inside the vehicle*, when one has a puncture and does not have a spare wheel in the vehicle and also double punctures.  RTS will give assistance at a discounted charge.  *When the keys are locked inside, when members have lost their keys and when vehicles have no number plates, no assistance will be given UNLESS the membership card or the log book are shown.

All charges are to be paid BEFORE the service is rendered.

RTS reserves the right to amend or change these rules.  Due notice will be given to members of such amendments or changes.  RTS may terminate the membership without giving a reason.  The decisions are final and NOT subject to any appeal.
